[ For a long, long time he stares at the blank, open pages of his journal, tapping the end of his pencil against the paper, cheek resting against the backs of his fingers. Is this a good idea, he wonders? Will it be any more successful than his previous attempts to get into the martial arts? He's already stretching himself thin juggling magic, work, and survival and he's fumbled even the most basic attempts at self-defence. What's to say learning to wield a weapon won't waste even more time?

He scrubs a hand through his hair and heaves a quiet, dejected sigh. This will be the third time he's opened the journal. Does he want it to be the third time he closes the book without writing a single word? He glances around the storage room nervously, suddenly paranoid that someone will emerge from the stairs or the corridor and ask what he's doing.

This is stupid...

Kaito leans back against the wall and bites his lip. Eventually, he starts to scratch out his request. ]

Hey, everyone. I dunno who still reads these, but is there anyone who'd be able to teach me how to fight? I'm dexterous, good at dodging, and I think I have decent arm strength.

Hey so uh, I was thinking... since it's cold and snowing and all, we should have some kinda winter festival. Well, maybe not a festival necessarily but like at least some kind of fun? We've been gone for so long and after that terrible thing happened I think everyone could do with some cheering up.

Is there anyone who has ideas on how to set up a skating rink? There's no pond or lake here but there's a good space in the middle of town to put down some water and freeze it, I think.

So apparently just over a year has passed here while it was just a 'day' to us. A bunch of people from town are gone. They were forced to fight and kill each other because of Lardface's sick idea of a 'present' for his new son.

Apparently the kid laughed when he saw it happen...

We have to do something. We can't let this sick, twisted guy raise an even more sadistic kid. We can't.

[ A few minutes later, the final line disappears under a massive line of inkblots, obscuring whatever the message once was. Then: ]

We need to meet up and talk about what's happened since we were gone.

If anyone fights the Lord's eyeless servants, please try to aim for the heart. There's a small stone embedded in their chests which, if you break or shatter them, will turn them back to normal. It's not that much bigger than a coin and hidden beneath a big scar.

After the black blood leaves them, they should be fine. Or they might die but...they should still be fine.

It would be better if you could cut the stone out without breaking it but that's probably asking too much, isn't it.

I'm not sure what happened last night, but it seems like a lot of people aren't feeling good about it. And I've been kind of out of the loop with things lately, so I was trying to think of a way that might help cheer everyone up as well as maybe get together with people again.

It's getting colder, so it made me think of something. Back home, around the end of the year in the colder months (at least it's cold then in the part of the world I'm from), there's a holiday called Christmas. It's basically a time that everyone gets together with family and friends and exchanges presents with them.

Maybe we could do that here? Have it on the next Day, so people can get ready for it and the like. Everyone could come to the town for it, if the townsfolk don't mind. It could be like a festival.

So like Spinel said the headless guy didn't write chores again today. That was me. It would be nice if everyone got together and helped clean the place because it's getting dirty really quickly.

I'll see if writing up paperwork like Spinel suggested gets everyone paid. But if not, I found some coins in his room and outside the castle that I can give out to people who help. I only have enough to give one to each person though. Maybe two.

If you do want to help, leave your name or initials or some kind of mark here and tell me what you did. I'm going to check later.

Is anyone else concerned about the maids and guards getting stuck on loop? I've been watching since they started doing it last Day and it only seems to be getting worse.

And with no chores assigned for the Day again... (Credit for trying, Tricks, but that doesn't really count. Also, you forgot laundry buckets.)

It's really giving me the shivers. The Qliphoth didn't give me this many shivers.

On that note, I'm starting to get concerned about our funds as a whole - we have the gardens for food right now and they seem to be resisting the cold, but that's not all we need to survive. With no chores, there's no money flow. I know a couple people have gotten work at the shops, but is that really enough to sustain everyone? And those who don't have any fallbacks like that... Well, I'd hate to start charging for lessons.

Also, did anyone other than Marian and I investigate the tailor's last night?

So I managed to catch this flying sharkdile thing. It came barrelling out of the Jungle Bedroom. I've got rope around its snout so it can't bite (hopefully) but now I don't know what to do with it. It's still asleep right now.
