Mid-Day

That wasn’t too bad. Not the worse thing to have happened to me. But I feel weird.

Also, I did not get a cool scar for it. In cartoons when something like that happens, the hero comes back with a powerup and a BIG scar.

So I have drawn what should have happened.

[Luce feels too weird to actually color anything, so its a simple black and white drawing.]

But anyways, I will be throwing a party soon for any plush friends you might have. Please RSVP so I can make sure they have a hat.

He nodded as he kept on playing with the tips, entranced by it.

"Like I was made for it." he cocked his head to the side. "And it feels so heavy, but I just can't let go of it." he frowned at Rei. "That if I did that, I would no longer be." Not be him, but simply be. His eyes focused on her mouth.

"Those two before me-me hurt a lot, Rei."

For all she knew, he had never seen hair like hers before. It helped too, that she'd been trying to take good care of it.

But she had to think of what to say-what would be honest, and what would be true to him-what did he need to hear?

"What the two yous did before-it sounds like it was a hard job. It's very heavy. But it's needed too."

She let that sink in for a moment, before she continued.

"Maybe it's a little different for you. But do you mean that you was hurting a lot inside? Or that he hurt a lot of people?"

"Both." he said finally.

"The Second one was told he was doing what was right, but he didn't think so. But- he was lied to a lot, only one person didn't." The man with those green eyes, the one that makes his heart hurt.

"The third me, didn't like it, and hurt a lot. And he hurt a lot inside."

There was something that flashed in her eyes-something deep and sad. Being lied to ones whole life but for one, would be painful. And hurting everyone else instead would have helped no one.

"That sounds like those were very painful things to go through. But that doesn't mean you're going to go through the same pain. You're not the same as the second or the third you."

Gently, she stroked her fingers through his hair. She thought he might need the touch and the affection.

"How would you go about your duty? As judge?"

"I don't know." he said, taking in the touch, letting his eyes drift shut. "But I would make sure balance is brought back. I would start here."

He opened his eyes, he noticed the flash in her eyes but didn't know how to ask about it.

She nodded, still stroking her fingers through his hair. "Balance is difficult, especially here. But with a lot of hard work, it can possibly be done. We have to know what balance would be, and what the consequences are."

Rei closed her eyes and shrugged, a small smile on her lips. "It would mean a lot of research."

"Right now, I feel like a good place to start would be with them."

The Lord and the Lady.

"And the ghosts. Which is a lot to do, and I guess I should go back into the library soon and see what else I can find."

She laughed quietly. He was not one to take things slow at all.

"One thing at a time." She told him. "Try to concentrate on the ghosts. They need your help and your empathy more. With giants, going right for them only gets you stomped underfoot."

Especially with the Lord. And she would hate it if Luce became a crow.

"Try reading more of your book? I'll tell you a little at a time what I know, and what I can do."

"Why don't you tell me all now?" he asked, of course he couldn't take things slow. To him 10 minutes was forever from now.

"And what if you worse spikey armor when going against the giant?"

"Because it's a lot, and I don't want to overwhelm you. It's a little scary. And it'd be a good reward for when you do your work."

Sadly she would not tell him everything in ten minutes or less.

"Sometimes that just makes the giant mad and makes the giant stomp harder and take it out on the spikey armor person's friends too."

"And whats my work?" he questioned now trying to braid some of Rei's hair.

She leaned in, and let Luce try to braid her hair. Or just twist it around, depending.

"You're to study the grave minder book and find out what you can do, and what other people can do to help. This means finding things we have to use to help, things we have to do, things like that."

"What if the book is being stupid and mysterious like all the other fuck here?"

He mispronouced it, but he was excited for the new word.

He might have mispronounced it, but she understood what he said all right. Rei's eyes widened, and she pulled away from his fingers.

"What did you say?" She said it very calmly, and looked him in the eye but...she had the voice. That adult voice that meant someone was in trouble.

The adult voice was fully wasted on Luce, but he did know the expression.

"Things are being stupid and mysterious?" trying to figure out what he said wrong.

"What you said after that. The word that starts with F." The slightly horrified expression became far more stern and disapproving. "Who told you that word?"

"Fuck?" he questioned, "I argued with someone on the journals and they used it a lot. I should always learn new words."

"Yes. That word. That's a bad word Luce, and your parents would not be happy that you're using it." She rubbed her temples. "This is the person who was hostile to everyone?"

"Yeah, I got into an argument with him!" Luce chirped frowning. "Why am I being told just now its bad?"

"Because I wasn't paying attention to that conversation. It was a waste of my time and attention to give him any attention-and yours too."

She frowned. "Is this the first time you've used it, outside of that argument?"

"So ignore him even if he is being stupid?" Luce questioned. "Well, I used it with a boy in town, and thats it?"

He narrowed his eyes trying to remember if he said it any more.

"I am pretty sure thats it."

Rei made a face as if pained, before pinching the bridge of her nose. Gods have mercy on her, she was going to have to have this conversation again sometime in the future. It made her wonder if she was going to be a good parent.

"Did he know the word already? Or did you teach it to him? Because I don't want you to use that word. And I don't want you to spread it either. It doesn't make you sound as if you're verbose. Instead, it sounds....like you're trying to hit someone with words. Does that make sense?"

"He already knew the word because he didn't seem to care." Luce said, still trying to move back to playing with Rei's hair. At least the pro to this entire situation was that Rei was getting practice now.

"Then why was the huge butt using it all over the place? It seemed like it would be useful because it could be used all over in every part of the sentence."

"He might have heard it enough that it lost its shock value." She gently touched his fingers. No hair playing yet, because she wanted his attention. Then he could.

"It's a sign of frustration, yes. But it goes to show that he was being very rude, and that he doesn't have good control over his temper. And that he was trying to get attention-not to mention he wanted to hurt people."

She sighed. "Try not to call people names either. Even if you think they're being rude."

"Well, he didn't tell me his name, so I have to call him something." Luce frowned moreso, disappointed he wasn't getting to play with Rei's hair again at the moment. "Well, I wasn't hurt. So he failed there."
