Night 11

[Awhile after night begins, and after Sync has spent some time talking to Sil about what happened, a new post appears in the journals. He still hasn't used this enough for most to recognise his handwriting, but those who do will realise it's a little shakier than normal]

The basement isn't safe, especially around the crafters rooms. I don't know if it's still there or not, but there was a monster hiding in the carpenter's room. It's already killed one person tonight.

[He doesn't write any more than that, no 'be careful' or anything. It's a warning, and that's all. Sync doesn't care what happens to most of the people here. But for those few he's beginning to realise he does...hopefully it will be enough]

Is the carpenter dead then?

[Walter's knowledge of the situation is imperfect. As far as he knows, the crafters are still bound to stay inside their rooms, and he doesn't know who else might have been down there.]

No, he's fine, as far as I know. Both he and the weaver left the rooms before anything happened.

Odd. So far as I know, none of the workers have left the rooms before.

[In the back of his mind, Walter's more than a little curious as to where they might have gone. They were the two crafters he had kept the closest eye on. What had changed so that they were both able to leave? And why had they left? Had the carpenter known something was wrong in his room?]

What is your status?

All the rooms were open, it seemed. They were the only two who left.

[What was his status? He considers that for a moment]

Alive and uninjured. I got lucky.

Good. [He pauses, adding as an afterthought.] This isn't the first time the rooms have all been open. It was that way when it was flooding downstairs, too.

[Questions. He had a lot of questions, and fewer answers than he liked.]

Do you have any information on the monster?

The first time any of them have left though, to my knowledge.

Yes. The one who saved me and a mutual acquaintance told me of it. It's one of the servants to the creature sealed in the maze.

What matter of monster is it?

[ Her handwriting isn't the prettiest, making it difficult to believe it comes from someone who normally is described as elegant. Maybe it belongs to someone who fights or isn't used to writing, hence the interest in the beast that was causing problems. ]

A shadowy creature, one that lures with the voices of those who are close to you, or by hiding within objects out of sight.

A shadowy creature. [ Not like the dark covered creature she had seen in her thoughts then? ]

I have not seen this creature for myself though I doubt it would reveal itself carelessly in my presence. There is no hiding easily in ice.

[Ice huh. No wonder you feel so much like water fonons, unknown person]

Most likely not, though you shouldn't underestimate it. The creatures in this place have a habit of being more powerful than one would think.

Of this I know. [ Though she doesn't expand on how she's come to know of it. ]

Who among us has fallen on this night? My curiosity begs me to ask.

They will. But there's only so many times a person can die before beginning to be warped by this place.

Then we are to be robbed of not just our identities, but our selves?

Pleasant.

If you're foolish enough to let yourself get killed enough, yes. Or if you kill yourself. Both work.

Most people don't have a choice in the matter. Kind of comes with the whole dying business.

Thank you. This doesn't bode well. It's difficult to be in the castle, ever since last Day. It hasn't gotten any better.

I don't feel anything except the tension of something about to happen, but then I'm not you. It doesn't surprise me that it comes from the castle though. Not with who rules it.

The thing that was in the zoo then? That's what it sounds like. I've never encountered it myself.

[Which...likely would have ended with her dying, having some sort of protection snap into place, or Lucus sighing in a very annoyed fashion and her having the chills for a couple of hours.]

It felt like I was being watched during the day. Like someone was hovering over my shoulder.

I did go and see if it had gotten better but instead that happened. Better then the last couple, at least.

Yeah. It was released some time ago.

I couldn't tell you if it was that or not. But if it had been inside the castle, it's possible that it was.

I spoke to the one who released it by accident, via the journals.

I apologize; I wasn't being very specific. What I meant was, something happened, which I'm not sure is related to the whisper creature. I can meet with you to explain, if you'd like.
