nero spills feelings by accident
[ The entry begins shaky-handed. Nero is still unsure of this book - but he needs to write this down. He needs people to know. His writing ends up quite elegant - very cursive, but readable. It goes out around midnight - Nero needs to get this out. He has wanted to scream at people, and this is much healthier. And easier as his throat feels so sick... ]
The Void is not to be messed with. Even in the era of the Allagan Empire, I thought this would be known. But they did fall - due to meddling with the powers of the Void. The records of two reigns of Emperor Xande was no mistake. In the waning years of the Empire, he was revived by Emperor Amon, and given the power to conquer more. However, death had scarred him far too far. Even after crafting Dalamud, his ambition meant nothing.
He made a pact with the Cloud of Darkness, one of the oldest creatures of the Void. Not a simple beast, but a being of emptiness who could create darkness to flood Eorzea. Life has no meaning, if death is to follow... perhaps he had the right idea? As long as he were dead, the Cloud of Darkness could seep out at any time. They are still a threat.
To create this, he required power from Dalamud. This power is what ended the Third Astral Era, and brought on the Fourth Umbral Era. To think, most theories of the time were wrong. If only I could share this knowledge, perhaps I would be worth more. Knowing them, however, it would be written off as the words of that damned Garlond. Or perhaps another adventurer will steal it and sell it? I wouldn't put it past them.
The Voidgate was sealed, as was the power, due to the powers around it. It re-awoke with much hidden with Dalamud returning, and Bahamut arriving. As did Doga and Unei - other clones.
Dearest children of Allag, given the blood of emperors as well. They seeked to stop the re-awoken Xande, but needed the help of others. As did I - but for the power of that Voidgate. Stronger then Ultima Weapon, perhaps stronger then the rumoured Omega Weapon, if it still existed. And so, I followed - even if it meant working with Garlond. Curiousity got the best of me.
A pity, then, that those adventurers needed to kill Xande and leave the Voidgate open to steal those two. I followed, to seek that power. At least, at first. They were immune to the Cloud of Darkness, due to their own pact. I, however, had to protect them from monsters.
If I am not there, any other Voidsent would kill them quickly. Even if garbed in traditional Allag wear and being able to use magic, there are many threatening beasts who could eliminate them and end the only hope left for Eorzea to survive.
Perhaps those who adventured to the tower desired this. I wouldn't put it past them - end the XIVth, and forget about saving them before doing their own damned adventures. Run with Garlond and find another land to protect.
If I were dead, they would not survive. Doga and Unei deserve to see what the world can bring them, with or without me. I want them to have happiness, and not have to continue living their lives of destiny.
I'm far too tainted to save. All those injuries leaving Void on me - and in me. My blood is purple, as is my skin. Even washing does nothing to remove it from anywhere. Not even my armour. A mockery of what it was. As with all of this. Another land? Don't make me laugh. This is simply another part of the Void. More agents of the Cloud.
...If my body was not so weak, I would slaughter them all. To see my children again. But that is then, and this is now. Still no sign of them. When my energy returns, I must look further.

... I would give my aid if I could.

Do not lie.

You know how many residents of this castle are unaware.

Which is particularly less of an "unforgivable" when said individual is apparently experienced with creatures that cause illusions and use them maliciously, which would seem a much more "rational" explanation than "far-flung other-realm out of reach of anything familiar".

[ It's written in a hurry. He's not afraid of his own death. He wants to embrace it. Or so he says. This isn't helping his paranoid thoughts.
To Asch, however, he does add another part: ]
Even those tired of their pasts cannot simply stop their deeds.
[ He writes from experience. ]

To write in these to allow all to see your words. It is how those trapped here communicate with one another.
[She carefully avoids calling it another world or the Void the other speaks of]

[ Of who he was. Of course he didn't deserve it. ]

If you would accept it, I would offer my help to you. I know you have little reason to trust me, but I would offer it all the same. I may not be able to help, but it is my nature to try.
no subject
[ For the next time he needs to vent. If he needs to... hide himself. ]
Why would you aid me, after what you have read? Or have you not heard of my deeds?
no subject
[She's pretty sure he is under all the pain]
But there is one thing you wish to do, and that is protect those who need it. To help two who have had no chance to truly live. Who you are does not matter to me. Even if I chose to not like you, I would still offer it for them.
no subject
[ Frankly, he is still not believing they could live. There is no force stronger. ]
Come, or do not. I am in no position to refuse - even if it's what I desire.

[ Not him, though.
He, however, is curious about fading away... but he does not desire to ask for it. Not yet. ]
[In person]
Sorry Nero, he saw you fussing over the kids and you've tipped him off you're not a complete bastard.
"You know, one would think I would have learned during the last Cycle about Garlean posturing - and yet it still seems I misjudged you."
Nero's condition is worrying, but then, if Nero was able to write that at length, it probably won't kill him while they're talking.
no subject
And his expression, though tired (why can he not feel rested), turns to anger.
"Come to mock me, Scion?"
For spilling his guts. For being defenseless.
no subject
Especially Garleans who had yet to figure out that Garlemald was an aberration rather than the rule.
"For the most part, no, although I cannot promise complete patience with typical Garlean pointless posturing." He learned this game with Nael and Livia, Nero, and while he's usually not one to judge cultural differences, yours is kind of stupid. "Unfortunately I have never been dedicated enough to training in magic use to have much hope of budging your current condition, but since your inadvertent confession to having a decent human being buried somewhere under that ambition and politicking, I have found some more inclination to give you a chance."
The sad part is that if Nero had straight up attempted to claim feelings for the kids, Thancred probably would've been suspicious of his motives and what he was after - but an accidental confession immediately hurried to cover over as a "weakness"? That was probably more trustworthy. "Death is among the things that works strangely here, but I imagine seeing if someone else here has an idea how to solve this would be more reliable than hoping it might separate the voidal energy from you on revival."
no subject
"Even death is tainted? What a pity. And here I thought I was going to finally stop being a thorn in anybodies' side."
That's what he is. Perhaps death is making him more willing to joke about his own state. Pains of regret, masked with his usual tone and snarky voice. God, he's so weak. After a moment, he closes his eyes. "And... besides. I don't trust any of them. Or even you."
What point is there in trusting them?

They are of Allag blood. Even if there are many of them - some even sent to try and slaughter us sometimes - they live like any Spoken.
There are some who would call them disposable, but they would be wrong.
no subject
... there is a part of this that calls out to her however so Ysayle writes in return. Her penmanship is commonplace among cultists, that of a child who hasn't had a proper learning yet knew that presentation was highly desired to those who had nothing else. ]
Your children?
no subject
Yes. They have nobody else - ergo, I have taken to protecting them as if they were my own.
no subject
There were far too many unanswered questions, yet she kept them to herself. It wasn't the first time she used manipulation to further her causes. ]
Noble intentions hardly suit a man in your position though I have read your story with mine own eyes. There is no denying the emotion behind your words. I too have nobody else within these walls and although I have grown in a life of solitude, I shall not endure it here.
Unless you still believe the foolishness that I am an agent of the Void.
No, my body is a vessel for a being far greater than your feeble Void.
no subject
There is no need for me to gain closeness with others. You would know that, if you had truly read what I had written.
The Void, however, is stronger then any force of Eorzea. Or did you miss that it took the power of Dalamud to begin opening a gate large enough for them to flood that feeble world?
[ After a moment, however, he writes a number. Now he knows everything can see this, he is terrified even more. They can come and leave if they desire. What is the point in hiding? ]
27.

There's no point in telling her that there's a force stronger than herself: she won't believe it. Moons ago, she believed it to have been the Saint Shiva who watched over her and who was stronger than the woman who brought dragonkind and mankind together? No one.
Nero isn't the only person full of themselves at times though it does give her much to think about. Those creatures didn't seem all that strong if they had to rely on the power of Dalamud to enter their world.
At dorm 27, she enters without bothering to announce her entrance, choosing instead to use her presence to highlight it. Congratulations, she looks like a normal fucking Elezen. ]
no subject
Closing his eyes as she entered - he didn't want to see this. He was fearing what power somebody could be if they bragged so openly...
...And it was an Elezen, he sees, as his eyes opened. Just another damned Elezen. He had not liked them on the nicest of days, and he did not like the ones from here. His hand still gripped the book, and his gunblade lay on the bed openly. ]
Won't even knock? How rude.
no subject
Was he in pain? The bed was a mess but she takes note of his weapon, as well as how close it was to him. After performing in her last bout splendidly, she's not all that eager to get into another brawl. ]
Your body is weak.
What is it that you need to recover your strength?
no subject
Even if he was clearly weak, he averts his gaze again. Why must everybody insist he must recover? Why not let him die? ] I mentioned a taint. This is it. Those two ch-- they were immune to the Cloud, but not to the others.
And this is the result of trying to help. [ No. He can't let weakness enter his voice once more. ] I... doubt there's a way to recover.
no subject
[ Stepping in closer, she looks him over completely. ]
From what I can tell, there is little point in fighting it off yet you do. You cling to life each day in vain. Why?
no subject
[ He snorts, giving a slight shrug, before his expression darkens. ]
...Why? I need to. If I don't return? Those two get slaughtered, and an ancient Allag pact destroys Eorzea. [ A pause, closing his eyes. ] Of course the one who created Dalamud would bring Eorzea to an end. That thing really ruined everything.
