Given that we have now all had a while to settle in, certain issues are making themselves clear.

First: The lack of baths or showers. I believe a roster system is already in place for the existing rooms however. Please keep to it.

Second: The lack of soap for use in the aforementioned. Those knowledgeable in their making should make themselves known so there is less need to rely on the castle's own supply.

Third: The lack of ideal light within our sleeping quarters. I expect the onset of night in a few more 24-hour cycles and it would be ideal if candles could be found or manufactured before nightfall. The fats necessary to make both soap and candles are being gathered but knowledge and assistance in making them is required.

Fourth: Food. If a cook could come forward and create something more edible than what is currently given to us, I'm sure many would be grateful.

If there are other problems you foresee, please note them.

The problem with the thought of someone cooking here seems to be that the castle claims everything in the kitchen. Someone was taken away for eating carrots.

I would not be so blatant as to steal carrots from under the cook's nose.

Call it an experiment for now. I'm not concerned with the quality of my meals but I'd prefer not to listen to complaints.

To your first; the guards, if asked politely, will allow you to use the bathroom attached to their barracks. To your third; I do not have the knowledge myself, but our trunks hold a handful of candles already. More would certainly be wise if the tales of nightfall are to prove true.

With no guarantee that the candles will replenish themselves, it is best not to take chances.

A few pages back, I read someone had secured the guards' bathing quarters for use and proposed a rotation. That was what I was referring to.

Yes, a light is generally needed in order to see what you're writing.

[as far as he's aware, "do you have a light" among humans means "do you have a means of setting one end of this thing on fire"--he doesn't see why there should be a distinction between cigarettes and candles]

It's also generally needed for candles to be of any practical use. Wax and wicks don't generally give off light on their own.

Indeed they do not. If you're able to produce a flame to light them with then that is also welcome.

I'd add a fifth--anyone with medical experience around here? I don't know much about this place but I'm guessing it'll be necessary.

Before you ask, I only have rudimentary skills. I've worked in a lot of hospitals and the sort but I don't have any formal professional training.

Yeah. Guards apparently let people use their bathroom for baths. Maybe they have an infirmary we could have access to. Or maybe we can buy meds with pay.

I am more than skilled enough with white magic and volunteer to act as a healer now, as I did here previously. My name is Kuja, my room is the middle door in the group furthest from the stairs, and I will attempt to keep watch on the notebooks where I can.

After the lesson that screaming carrot man taught us, I believe subtlety may serve us better with regards to obtaining food.

Subtlety and I think, taking time to gain our bearings on our surroundings better to know where alternatives might be found and how feasible it is to obtain them.
